Summer Prayer

Father, Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Thank you for the warmth of the sun
and the increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty I see all around me
and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family,
and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer.
Teach me how I can pray
no matter where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence
and light my path with Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me
a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.

Holy Family Catholic School

Community  Council

On behalf of the Holy Family Catholic School Community Council (HFCSCC), I would like to thank parents & staff for their generous support of the Council’s activities.

We started the school year off with our School Info Fair in coordination with the September Meet the Teacher Night. This night was an opportunity for in-school activities to be showcased including: Eat Well to Excel, Chrome Book demonstrations, Spirit Wear, Eco Club and our School Council as well as an opportunity to meet Holy Family families.

We are pleased to offer 3 days per week of hot lunch.  Hot lunch would not be possible without the commitment of many parent volunteers.  Thank you to our volunteers who count money and tally hot lunch orders, and volunteers who come to the school for 45 minutes to distribute lunch to classrooms on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  In 2017 we transitioned to SOLO lunch, a new online hot lunch ordering system.  We are hopeful that SOLO will be a good first step in the transition to becoming a Cashless school which we hope to implement in the Fall of 2018.  Thank you for your understanding in the transition.

Last fall we hosted our first ever Fresh From the Farm Fundraiser which was a tremendous success.  With your support Holy Family sold Ontario apples and carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes and onions raising $1,800. Watch for this healthy fundraiser to return in the Fall.

With the help of a Ministry of Education Parents Reaching Out Grant we hosted a Math Night this Spring and were joined by Jump2Math.  With the help of our student volunteers, families had fun playing giant math games that filled the gym floor.

This year we hosted Holy Family’s annual Spring Fling; it was a tremendous success raising over $9,000.  Thank you for sending in items for the silent auction baskets and thank you to the volunteers who creatively wrapped the baskets. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Spring Fling success by selling raffle tickets, supporting the silent auction, volunteering or attending the event. This year’s raffle proceeds will go towards new technology in the school.

HFCSCC provided sponsorship to bring the Secret Life of Riley, a drama presentation supporting youth mental health to grade 3/4- 6 students.  HFCSCC also supported Le Festival du Voyageur, a unique French cultural event for Grade 4 and 5 students.

Thanks to the support of parent & student volunteers, HFCSCC was able to increase their financial sponsorship to the Grade 7 trip to Niagara Falls, and the Grade 8 trip to Muskoka Woods and their year-end Toronto trip through our Wednesday Pizza Day sales.

Grade 8 graduates are provided a cross on behalf of the Council annually.  We are pleased to provide pizza at the graduation social for the graduates.

Once again, thank you for making Holy Family the great school and community that it is.  Please contact the school office to get involved in upcoming activities.

Farewells
It is that time of the year again where we have to
say farewell to those staff that will be leaving our Holy Family School community.

Thank you to Ms. Bettencourt, Mrs. Brimblecombe, Ms. Hesketh, Ms. McKeown, Mrs. McKnight, Mrs. Medeiros, and Ms. Passera for their dedication to Holy Family.  They are completing their assignments at the end of June.

Thank you to Mrs. Roberts who will be leaving Holy Family after 5 years of dedication and service.  She will be moving to St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary in Barrie.  Best of luck at your new school and God bless.

Thank you to Mrs. Wainwright who will be leaving Holy Family after 23 years of dedication and service.  She will be moving to St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary in Tottenham.  We wish you all of God's blessings at your new school.

KINDEGARTEN REGISTRATION

It’s Registration Time

Getting Ready for Kindergarten

Starting Kindergarten is an exciting and special time for parents and children. Our entire Catholic school community looks forward to welcoming our youngest
students as they begin a lifelong journey of faith-filled learning. We believe there is something truly unique and special about learning that is rooted in faith and spiritual growth. By choosing a faith-filled education, we know you will share that belief with us.

We encourage parents who are looking to register their child for Kindergarten to please contact Mrs. Smith at (705) 435-3989 to get a Kindergarten package.  The package can also be found at  www.smcdsb.on.ca/parents/kindergarten

“First Rider Program”

Riding a school bus is a new experience for many children. To help your child get ready, the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium offers a First Rider program for Kindergarten students who will be taking the school bus. Students and parents will be able to participate in a one-hour session, which includes a short school bus ride to practice safe boarding and exiting as well as bus riding procedures. The sessions will take place on Wednesday August 31st at Holy Family Catholic Elementary School @ 9:00 am and 10:00 am.

Grade 8 Graduation Crosses

Thank you Holy Family Catholic School Council for purchasing our graduates a beautiful cross, commemorating their graduation from Holy Family.  Also thank you to Mrs. Horsburgh, former Holy Family teacher, for engraving the crosses for our students.

Volunteers and Hot Lunch Supervisors

We would like to thank our many volunteers and our lunch hour supervisors for all their hard work and commitment to the Holy Family school community this past year.

EQAO

Congratulations to our Grade 3 and 6 students who wrote the EQAO assessment.  These students made the best effort in demonstrating what they learned to this point in their primary and junior grades.  Thank you to their teachers Mrs. LeClair, Mrs. Coates, Mrs. Daly, Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. MacDonald, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Charbonneau and Mrs. Noble for preparing our students.

Please make arrangements to pick up any medication your child has here at the school by Thursday, July 5, 2018. Any medication left behind will be taken to our local pharmacy to be properly disposed of.
